Clearspring nori sea vegetable is farmed and produced using traditional methods in Kyushu, Japan. While some varieties of sea vegetables such as hijiki, arame, and dulse are harvested from the wild using sustainable practices, others, like nori, are extensively cultivated in Japan and other East Asian countries.
Although nori was originally gathered wild, it has been cultivated in Japan for over 300 years. Nets woven with nori spores are suspended between bamboo poles in calm bays, allowing the plants to get sunlight during low tide and a washing at high tide.
The delicate nori plants grow in the colder months and are harvested in late winter before being processed into thin, dried sheets.
